Kinport Peak is thought to be named after Colonel Harry D. Kinport, who lived in Pocatello since 1885 and was an important military recruiter. Loved it, moderately difficult.The network for trails by the Cusick Creek trailhead is quite extensive, but you can see the radio towers on Kinport Peak in the distance and if you just go straight in that direction, that's the right way. The South Summit has an open area of boulders that, I believe, is the high point. From the trailhead, it looks like you are going to be hiking through grasslands, with no cover, but in fact, most of the hike is shaded in the trees. Total elevation gain for the trail is 930 feet. So far this has been one of my favorites of the pocatello trails!Very good trail, actually develops from very desert like terrain to mountainous pine tree type terrain. It looks like you could do quite a bit of additional hiking and exploring along the ridges at the top. North Cascades. Get Started. Nice views at the top.
