";s:4:"text";s:6121:" You can get here via Hatcher Pass Road (aka Fishhook Road), which winds through the mountains for roughly 60 miles between Palmer and Willow. Beautiful. We came here with friends for a light lunch before our hike in Hatcher Pass. In summer months, usually around July 4th, the road opens over the pass, so travelers with high-clearance vehicles can travel all the way to Willow. The trail can be muddy and wet for the first .25 miles, but it's worth the hike to see Gold Cord Lake, and a great view of the Mine area.
You are probably gonna be here to recharge after the activities in the area and to view some of the most incredible scenery. At its peak, the Independence hard-rock gold mine was home to 206 workers and 16 families who lived high above tree line. The Chalet offers cleaning services on an hourly fee basis. The Mat-Su Borough also maintains an excellent sledding hill near Independence Mine State Historical Park that is wildly popular with area families and free to the public.Hatcher Pass is a popular destination for parasailing. The inspection will ascertain that the bathrooms have been cleaned, the floors have been mopped, the carpet has been vacuumed, the windows and walls are clean, the trash has been emptied, bagged and placed in the facility dumpster, and there is no damage to the premises.
The snow-covered mountains were scenic and serene, with snowboard tracks at the tops.
If those services are desired, they can be added to the rental contract on the “The Chalet Rental Rate Sheet” The premises will be inspected either immediately after or the next morning to ensure the facility is left in the identical condition as when it was received.
Food was just ok, but good if really hungry.Just go stay here! This trailhead also leads to Marmot Mountain, were paragliders launch from the top and land in the parking lot. Look for paragliders launching off of steep hillsides, and keep an eye out for whistling marmots, pikas, falcons, and golden eagles. Quiet, with a lot of trails and wildlife." They have a beautiful view into the valley below, and the mountains above.

The entire Hatcher Pass Management Area west of the pass is open to snowmobiling, although the Summit Lake State Recreation Site may be closed due to insufficient snow cover to protect the underlying vegetation. The lodge was a picturesque, two story 13,208 square foot wood frame building. No smoking is permitted within the Chalet, meeting rooms, kitchen bathrooms, and/or front lobby. I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for a quick getaway near Anchorage and other places nearby.Cute little lodge located in the gorgeous, picturesque Talkeetna Mountains offering private cabins and meals. There is a small campground with 8 sites… If you're going to Indepence Mine, I would suggest stopping here for a bite to eat.

I didn't stay here, but just ate at the cafe. My parents, aunt, and I were at a table 5-10 min. The road is dirt, and in the summertime you can drive the trail for a mile or two, but it is pitted with deep holes and rocks. This 2 mile round trip hike begins right at the Summit Lake Recreation Area parking lot at the crest of Hatcher Pass. You'll probably want to spend more time along the way. I haven't stayed as a guest yet but the restaurant is wonderful with a blazing coal stove for heat and hot buttered rum for warmth.
At the Government Peak Recreation area you will find an extensive trail system for nordic skiing, walking, hiking, fat tire… Just past Archangel Road, you will see a pullout on the left. Beaver dams have rerouted the trail in an odd way and add interest to the hike, but there is a bridge at the first crossing. before the guy came over to us and asked if we had been helped.
