I loved how it's about the inspirational power of role models and stories.
We never see a single ramp or elevator or chairlift in the entire novel. A fun read for any fan of the Batman family and even those who don't read comics! I can’t wait to have This does a good job at introducing the character to someone who doesn't know her.I'm really enjoying most of these one-shot Graphic Novels that DC has been putting out under the DC Ink printing press. "Good, evil, hero, villain--these aren't things people just magically become. And I like that she is Asian. And I like that she is Asian. And I loved the art style with its cool palette and expressive, age-appropriate characters. We meet Cass during what ends up being her last job as an assassin. It looks and sounds great!Everything I've always loved about Cassandra Cain plus bonus Oracle, with everyone looking like actual people. Not bad, but This was a solid "meh" for me, with a bit of "isn't that a tad too violent for the demographic this is being aimed at?" I mean this both in terms of what heroes look like and who heroes were before they became heroes.
My one big hesitation is the way disability is (or, more accurately, isn't) portrayed. Barbara is shown at the top of staircases; she's shown at the bottom of them; she's shown at Jackie's apartment, which is above the restaurant, and in Cassandra's hideout at the library, which is accessed either by a lot of stairs or by climbing in the window.
It's definitely one of the better if not the best of DC's new kid-friendly standalones. Shadow of the Batgirlis the best YA graphic novel DC Comics has ever published, it also, so far, one of the best comics of 2020. I also really liked the other characters, especially Jackie.Kind of a boring origin story, but I really like this version of Cass, I wasn't really aware of her until I saw BOP, and I think this is a more interesting version of her than the film version, it's a shame she was only really the same character in name. I understand that this is the origin story of a character who had a very difficult upbringing, to put it mildly. also, a+ characterization. When the man she’s sent to kill utters what should be his last words about his daughter, Cass is struck by the love and agony she reads in body language, even if she doesn’t quite know what his words mean. Female mentors and friends have been invaluable in my own life and my own story, so to see that play out in the words and illustrations of Just as Cassandra spends this story choosing a new path, so, too, does Barbara. characters without taking their (sometimes complicated) history into account. It's definitely one of the better if not the best of DC's new kid-friendly standalones. Yes, that veil pun is just gonna hang there staring you all in the face until you check out this incredible cover. Jackie reminded me of so many of my favorite aunties — a no-nonsense woman, provider of more food than you can eat and the best hugs in the business, able to kick the ass of anyone who dares hurt you and knock you flat on yours whenever you might need it.In short, it’s a story that should be in your hands and on your shelf, and one that I hope eventually makes its way to all the young women in your life. The art is super cute and the story feels so light despite having some dark aspects on it. I knew of Cassandra Cain mostly from a friend talking about her years ago, so I never really knew her story. It's just that we never see very simple, necessary elements like... elevators?
I adored everything about this, from the story itself (hello identity, wholesome romance and found family!!) As dedicated readers already know, some of the best and most innovative stories on the shelves come from the constantly evolving realm of young ...A great story, I will admit my biased straight out.
