He’s now treated with bd Epiphen 60.Wow im so pleased i read all these comments.I was recommended advocate by a freind.I have two gsd’s .I wont be touching this product with a barge pole .Thankyou all for your information.I’m sorry to read some of your stories but you’ve saved my dogs ..We have been using Advocate on our puppy basset hound for 4 months now, luckily no major side effects like some but I have noticed that whenever we put it on him he eats grass and vomits. I pray she comes out of this!Our dog has meningitis all the symptoms of the other dogs on here he’s been on Advocate since a pup he’s now 19 months old been like this for five months now. Sorry to be alarmist.I am going through the same thing with my Collie… this product should not be used on collies or associated breeds of collies due to the MRD1 gene… this was not mentioned at all at the vets and when my dog started having problems and we as the owners started investigating this it came to our attention that kidney failure issues are a side affect and the vets did not know this… I personally think this is disgraceful as the vets should know this.. My dog is having major issues with his kidneys.
Ask if you can go ahead and use an antibiotic as a urinary tract protective.
Thankfully, this morning he’s back to eating and drinking and playing. I have two Toy Poodles (a black and apricot one both age 5) and have been using it since they were puppies every three months. Just like any other product, there are pros and cons to Advocate.

Now after reading all these posts I’m worried about giving it again to my boy. She also appears to be reacting to the product: lethargic and sickness. the vet asked if anything had been different for him before the seizures, of course we racked our brains as to what it may be, then I remembered treating him with Advocate 5 days before. He has perked up a bit today and can stand up better but I certainly won’t be using it again and will be spreading the word that this stuff is a massive risk.

I just want to clarify it is the ivermectin in advocate that ALL herding breeds can have issues with. Can anyone advise me on an alternative please. I feel like my dogs life was taken by this stupid drug. This has led to repeated bladder infections that have threatened her life.She had this reaction four months ago. I took him to one of the vets at the practice who told me Advocate was the only treatment available and to continue the treatment for six months. After 8 months the mites returned and we restarted the Advocate and my dog was ill for 4 days. I am sad to tell you that you will not get any support from Bayer (financial or otherwise). He is usually the most affectionate, lively little fella, it’s horrible to see him like this. We have no choice, but to use a chemical treatment. I am hoping and praying that in time he will recover but its looking that way at the moment. Dog cant use its back legs cant stand up and is currently still in the vets on a drip and being sedated. This means it is going to be about 6 months before the product has even left her system.She remained incapacitated for months, then slowly started to regain functioning. This morning I gave him his monthly Advocate and later found him hiding behind the sofa trembling all over. He is totally lethargic and hyperventilating so we will definitely be looking for an alternative. She is now 6 months, and she suffered a siezure once last week and has had another one this week! They were very concerned about Lilli & called me back twice over the next few weeks to see how she was doing.
