Killpecker Road zigzags uphill and connects to Deadman Road.
Left is upper route to same place. This trail passes through dense softwood, open logging road, bog, and young hardwoods while following a gentle slope. The large parking lot on the south side of ME Route 4 serves as parking for boaters using the Haine’s Landing boat launch on Mooselookmeguntic Lake. It is archery/ black powder season up there so be aware of hunters. Starts out as nice easy ride, but does get very difficult with large boulders and narrow rocky climbs!Great trail! Parts of the route are punishing. This network of two trails offer short but moderate hikes up Bald Mountain where there are spectacular views of the lakes and mountains around the Rangeley region. Just finished this with my 3” lifted 4runner on 33’s. All four routes are available as eGuides from FunTreks on EveryTrail. It's a long, rocky trip south to Highway 14.Two roads very close together go right. Trail closer to the top with switchbacks and granite ledges have multiple spurs that can take a hiker off path. Bald Mountain Road 517 ends at Forest Road 319. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October. To reach the primary trailhead, follow ME Route 4 about a mile west of its intersection with ME Route 17 in Oquossoc Village, Rangeley. The trail starts at the rear of the parking lot. Full size trucks won't make it all the way. Some ares are pretty tough. Continue on Bald Mountain Road for about 0.5 miles. Lots of roots and exposed granite to deal with.
