Poor storytelling ability.Isn't what you call a circlejerk just a bunch of people making up their own minds?Dude this is reddit, everyone uses upvotes and downvotes based on agree/disagree. The problem is that Miller had too much freedom and became to too much miller for his own good.I actually think original TDKR is overrated. Also, since it was one of the earliest comics I got, it was my first exposure to the likes of Captain Marvel, The Flash, The Question, Plastic Man and Wonder Woman in comics, and I grew to love them thanks in part to it.I think that was part of Miller's intent: his DKR sort-of started the wave of grim and gritty comics and propelled Batman up as the head honcho of DC, and SA was Miller's attempt at saying, "Hold up, these characters are pretty fucking awesome too, let me show you why. Batman really isn't even in the book that much from what I remeber, its like "the dark knight strikes again" was just to cash in from TDKR's fame.I havn't read it in maybe 5-6 years, and have read so much batman since then that its not really fresh in my mind, but I remeber thinking pretty early on in the book that I didn't care much about it.Actually tried to give it another look yesterday. Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for The Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller (2001, Trade Paperback) at the best online prices at eBay! It's just ... aggressively bad.And the art isn't even the worst thing about the book. pretending to be the joker.
I didn't like that part at all, really.I think TDKSA had a good premise, but the poor writing and art resulted in very poor execution. Also, the whole Dick Grayson subplot was unnecessary.Oh look, its time for the subreddit to flip its general opinion about distain/love for a book because a sequel is coming out. It happens to most artists. It doesn't mean it's bad. Overview. Everyone goes on about how horrendous certain books are and it puts people off making their own decisions about them. Comics Alliance and other sites thrive on it. There is enough in it that is good that I can overlook the craziness and ridiculousness of it.New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be castA reddit for fans of comic books, graphic novels, and digital comics.Press J to jump to the feed. I can push through some really bad art in the interest of "style" if there's a compelling narrative or interesting characters and dialog, but this whole book just feels like a giant "Fuck You" to superhero books. BATMAN NOIR: THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN continues writer and artist Frank Miller’s dystopian Batman tale in gritty black-and-white inks as it has never been seen before. He was finishing it on the plane to turn it in.I think he got so drunk he woke up thinking he was Pablo Picasso...It's the complete lack of texture that does it for me. Likewise, when I see a thread bashing Miller, I don't see a reason to spend time in that thread.Or that redditors who already liked that thing and are excited for a sequel would want to discuss it?The biggest reason I find it cynical, is that you label a discussion based on a well articulated if mildly contrarian view as just evidence of a shift in circlejerk.I honestly enjoyed the shit out of it. one of the more out there Batman tales, for fans with a grimmer taste of Batman.Fantastic Comic-must read. Strikes Again was just heavy-handed to me, with the other JL characters and Catwoman getting short shrift.Art is subjective, but I remember it being not to my taste. The TDKR/TDKSA conversation comes up in this subreddit pretty frequently, and it seems like a lot of people, while aware of Frank Miller's downward spiral, aren't aware of what caused it.In September of 2001, Frank Miller was living in Hell's Kitchen finishing up TDKSA.He was only four miles away when 9/11 happened, and quite a few critics believe that it kind of made him go crazy.I'm not sure how much he changed in DKSA because of 9/11, but compared to any of his earlier stuff, it seems a lot more paranoid, heavy-handed, and, quite honestly, forced. You can tell that after TDKSA, Miller started getting increasingly patriotic, conservative, and TDKSA is the last thing Miller did (in my opinion) that shows any kind of inspiration, but I think that as he was finishing and editing it, he felt traumatized, drained and confused, translating those feelings into the book, which frankly doesn't make much sense.I feel bad for Miller, because he was clearly deeply affected by the 9/11 attacks, and a lot of what he's produced since then is just a run-off of his anger. At the same time though, he's regurgitating vitriolic bile over people who Frank Miller's one of those guys who's just seen some really bad shit and is taking it out on everybody around him.I think I'm one of the few people who really likes it when an artist indulges himself.
The art was incredible! You already know the answer. With Lewis Lovhaug, MacInTalk. It was more set around Batman than about Batman, being closer to a Justice League or even Superman story than a Batman story. I loved TDKSA. "I'm on your side here. So to me, not knowing Dick is even an established character within the Dark Knight Returns universe coupled with the god awful illustrations of Joker that look not even close to someone that might resemble Dick, there's no reasonable way to even predict the true identity of the Joker. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts However, that would be applying a steady bar to everything. Needless to say I love the book and come back to it often. Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again, also known as DK2, is a 2001-2002 DC Comics three-issue limited series comic book written and illustrated by Frank Miller and colored by Lynn Varley, featuring the fictional superhero Batman. One, don't you think that it's more likely that when people see a positive headline for something they liked they feel more comfortable posting in that thread?
