Exactly this: What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. This series is in a league of its own. However, this is Jorg we’re talking about, and this young man really knows how to play his hand - usually with much aplomb and not to mention quite a few deaths. In fact this trilogy may now be my top rated due to the honesty he writes with and maybe the single best ending in recent times (hard to explain without revealing spoilers). At twenty years old, Jorg is already king of seven nations, secure in his power, soon to have an heir, and the annual concave to elect an Emperor of the Broken Empire is fast approaching. However, this is Jorg we’re talking about, and this young man really knows how to play hiEmperor of Thorns was a satisfying conclusion. With this series, Lawrence has fashioned less of a conventional fantasy "epic" (though the world of the Broken Empire is certainly rich and enthralling enough, with all the expected action and intrigue to match), and more of a tightly focused character study, remeniscent of 70s/early 80s auteur cinema, asking uncomfortable questions about human nature, without offering simple, cut-and-dry answers. I find myself hard up against a roadblock.Emperor of Thorns was a satisfying conclusion. Received this very quickly so was pleased by that. Well, Jorg's actions are, almost literally, breathtaking; when faced with a problem, he just hacks his way through it without any attempt at justice, logic or any of the normal rationales that other heroes would apply. Or perhaps they knew more than that, for they had set the old-stone in … It will probably depend on taste, but for me, this third and final installment ranked somewhere between them.

Despite Jorg Ancrath being despised by a lot of people, I think he is the most interesting character ever to step between the pages of a book. As explained earlier in the series, the builders messed with metaphysical forces and tilted reality off it's axis. . Dive in!I definitely loved the first book the most out of all of ...
